Buenos Aires and around

Well, here´s a brief summary of the first week. We spent the first three nights in the San Telmo district of Buenos Aires which was interesting! It seemed like kind of a rough neighborhood but very colourful and to be honest we didn´t witness anything too dodgy.

Next we went North to Tigre and the Parana river delta for two nights. I impressed myself by asking for train and boat tickets in Spanish (I’m practically fluent!). It was an hours train ride and a two hour boat ride from BA on a really cool boat – even had a boat cat. Lots of people live on the delta in houses with stilts and there are shops and petrol stations on the islands. It was a strange experence staying in the hotel as we were the only guests, but it was relaxing after San Telmo and buses going past your window at 5am. Got eaten alive by the mosquitos though.

Finally we went back to BA, but this time we stayed in the Palermo  district which was a lot more chilled than San Telmo but the hostel was a ´hostel´(ie. a bit dirty and full of kids) but we actually got up the nerve to go out after dark!

The next week is going to be spent right at the bottom of Argentina, in Ushuaia, and perhaps a little further up in El Calafate – wintertime in both so some fun in the snow!

Sian (and David) xx

  1. Hey, sounds like a good start! I don’t understand how you have crammed so much clothes into your luggage, you have at least three different T-shirts each! I thought this was just one outfit trip!
Re Ushuaiaian- something – I am hoping for some pictures of Cape Horn, rugged landscape, Sian and penguin, Dave and penguin… How about skiing – if its winter over there, you could have a go. Farnham must seem miles away now – well it is isnt it ( Do’h). The only news that I can report is that the pollen count over here is VERY high. How fascinating I hear you say…
On more personal note: As you were departing on you world tour, Bart has departed (as the Americans say) over the rainbow bridge and is in Cielo des Perros. (Me llorado todo el fin de semana). Billy looks totally confused, we do not think that he is missing Bart in particular but it is obvious that he is missing canine company. Nevertheless the purity of the air in our living room is now back to acceptable as you would understand.
carry on having nice time and do not touch any unclean surfaces,
    much love

I used one of your bay leaves in a curry this evening, and it brought me a little close to you both. Loving the blog action x

  3. Hello Dave and Sian

Blimy you have done so much already. You are making me jealous, so wish I was going for a year now rather than 3 months.

If you haven’t heard yet Clare had a 8lb baby girl on 8th May and she’s called Elsie May Baker. She’s absolutely gorgeous, have put some photos on my facebook.

Hope you are having a fab time, see you in November 🙂 xxx
